What is Project MANA? Project MANA is a private nonprofit organization that collects, stores and redistributes food throughout the North Lake Tahoe/Truckee region in Nevada and California. We served over 2,400 individuals in 2015-16.
How much food does Project MANA distribute annually? Project MANA distributed more than 233,450 pounds of food in fiscal year 2015-16. This food, valued at $401,500, fed the community over 27,350 times.
What is the difference between a food bank and a food pantry? A food bank is the storehouse for millions of pounds of food and other products that go out to the community. A food pantry functions as the arms that reach out to that community directly.
Where is Project MANA located? Our main office is located in Incline Village on the lower level of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church at 341 Village Blvd. Our warehouse is located in Truckee at 10990 Industrial Way Unit B5..
How does Project MANA get its food? Project MANA partners with local grocery stores, vendors and food banks to rescue and distribute perishable foods that would otherwise go in the trash. Project MANA receives nonperishable food donations from food banks, individuals, employee groups, schools and community organizations.
Does Project MANA purchase food? Yes. We purchase perishable foods from Habeger Produce Plus and nonperishable foods from the Food Bank of Northern Nevada to help keep up with the demand and ensure we can distribute nutritionally balanced food. This is where donations from individuals, corporations, businesses, religious, civic groups and foundations come in.
How do I find a food distribution site? Project MANA holds weekly food distributions in Incline Village, NV; Kings Beach, CA; Tahoe City, CA; and Truckee, CA. To find the food distribution site closest to you, check out the Food Programs page.
How does my contribution to Project MANA make a difference? Donations to Project MANA go a long way. Every dollar donated helps us to purchase 1.33 meals. For example, a $20 donation will purchase enough food to feed a family for a week. The number of meals per dollar is a calculation that takes into account cash, food donations and volunteer contributions, along with other factors.
