Food Rescue

Food Express is our food rescue and reuse program that diverts food that would otherwise be thrown away to people in need.  In collaboration with local supermarkets and retail vendors, Project MANA staff and volunteers collect produce, dairy, bakery and grocery items each weekday. This donated product is then distributed to community members throughout our 3 county service area.  

In 2011-2012, more than 100,000 pounds of food were distributed to over 4,000 food insecure households in need.

Food Donations

We gladly accept perishable and non-perishable food that is unopened and unexpired. You may drop off these food items our office located at 948 Incline Way in Incline Village, NV anytime during normal business hours.

Food Drives

Project MANA relies on support from the community to help collect food to support our mission.  Sponsoring a food drive can be easy and fun!  

Launching your drive:
  1. Contact our Nutrition Education Coordinator at 775-298-0102 or Deidrel@projectmana.org to schedule collection barrel drop off and pick up dates.
  2. Promote your drive using emails, Facebook, Twitter and flyers.
What to Donate: Nutritious, non-perishable foods! Listed below are the most needed foods.
  • Canned meals: stews, soups, ravioli/spaghetti/lasagna
  • Canned protein products: peanut butter, tuna, salmon, chicken, beans
  • Grains: cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta
  • Fruits: canned fruit, fruit cups, dried fruit, applesauce, juice
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Shelf Stable Milk or milk substitutes
Ideas & Themes:
  • Pass out grocery bags to your co-workers and have "Macaroni Mondays," "Tuna Tuesdays," or "Fruit Fridays" to encourage donations of specific foods.
  • Have a competition between departments for who can collect the most cans or who can build the  best structure out of cans collected.
  • Consider challenges such as raising your weight in food or filling an office with cans.
  • Collect cans of food at Halloween instead of candy
