It seems appropriate that National Volunteer Week occurs in April - because just like April showers that bring May flowers, volunteers help organizations like Project MANA blossom.
Project MANA's volunteer & FACE (Food and Companionship Exchange) coordinator, Andrea, celebrated our volunteers, who like the US Postal Service brave snow, rain, wind, sun and cold, to support our 4x weekly mobile distributions, provide other emergency hunger relief services, help in our warehouse to prepare for food distribution and so much more! Project MANA literally could not feed our community members without our volunteers. THANK YOU!
Andrea gave each volunteer a package of wildflower seeds with words of gratitude, With each seed package, Andrea asked each volunteer why they volunteer for Project MANA. Some of their responses really made us smile and we hope they make you smile too.

MOUNTAIN KIDS COOK-OFF
Northstar California and Project MANA are excited to join forces on an exciting new kid’s culinary competition and you’re invited to join in!
Kids ages 8 – 12 are invited to submit a video (DEADLINE JUNE 4) telling us why they should be one of the lucky teams selected to battle it out at the Mountain Kid’s Cook-Off.
Eight teams will be selected to cook in the semi-final round on Sunday, August 6th at the Northstar Zephyr Lodge. Teams will be given a platter of secret ingredients and will have to create a dish to excite the judges. All participants will receive a logoed apron and two lucky teams will be selected to compete in the finals on Saturday September 10 during the Lake Tahoe Autumn Food & Wine Festival. The two final teams will battle it out on the Village Stage in front of their friends and families for the winner’s trophy and more cool prizes!
The semi-final round will also be a fundraiser benefiting Project MANA, Project MANA’s mission is to reduce the incidence of hunger and its detrimental effects upon individuals, families, the community and the region. In addition to providing hunger relief, we have developed programs designed to alleviate the causes of hunger and promote nutrition through education and awareness.
Families, friends and spectators will be invited to attend the semi-finals to cheer on their teams during the on-mountain luncheon. Tickets will be $20 per adult and $10 per child and all proceeds will go directly to Project MANA.
