At the WinterWonderGrass festival at Squaw Valley earlier this month, Project MANA participated in a pilot campaign with Imperfect Produce called Post for Pounds to help fight food insecurity and food waste.
Imperfect Produce is a home produce delivery service in the Bay area focused on providing affordable fruits and vegetables to consumers. They source "ugly" fruits and vegetables that usually go to waste on farms. These fruits and veggies taste the exact same on the inside but look a little "wonky" on the outside.
Festival goers were invited to locate Imperfect Produce’s team dressed as veggies, and to take a photo with them and their whiteboard explaining why they #eatugly (imperfect) produce. For each post tagged #Imperfectproduce and posted on Instagram and/or Facebook, Imperfect donated 5 lbs of fresh produce.
During the course of Winter Wonder Grass, Imperfect and Project MANA engaged hundreds of attendees. Between Instagram and Facebook, there were a whole lot of really great and engaged posts with our hashtags. This flurry of activity on social media resulted in a donation of over 1,000 pounds of produce to Project MANA for distribution in N. Tahoe and Truckee!
“Imperfect Produce is looking forward to getting this food into the hands of Tahoe residents in need!”, said Imperfect’s Head of Outreach, Dylan J. Bondy. “Thanks for being such an awesome first fest to partner with. I am confident that we will more than double our impact at the 2018 WinterWonderGrass.”
THANK YOU IMPERFECT PRODUCE!
